You've seen the pink ribbon saying Legalize the Cure on the home page.

Now the AMA wants marijuana removed from Schedule 1 to allow research into the potential benefits of medicinal hemp.

It's working.

This is an explanation of just what this campaign means and why we used this particular design.

First, you'll notice what this design doesn't include...a hemp leaf.  Yes, that ubiquitous leaf is displayed proudly on all sorts of paraphernalia, from t-shirts to shampoos.

So why isn't it on this design?

Because we want people to ask you what it means.  People will be surprised that a 'cure' is illegal.  Discuss it with them.  Tell them what it means to you.  Tell them it's not just about using a recreational medication.

It could be that you support a cure for oil dependence (hemp oil or ethanol from biomass processing of hemp).  You might want to save the forests from logging (hemp paper).  Perhaps you'd like to see less cotton production and the resulting pollution required to productively grow cotton (hemp fabrics).  Maybe you just want a nutritious source of flour and bran (ground and milled hemp).

We also want you to be able to display this proudly without fear of drawing suspicion regarding illegal activity.  Some people have issues with others using any psychoactive substance.  Like coffee, chocolate or Valium.  Fine.   Display this ribbon and tell them about all the potential uses of cannabis.  Chances are, they don't even know what cannabis is.

This emblem is for senior citizens who need affordable drugs and soccer moms who know a kid with juvenile leukemia.  It's for angry Americans who fear losing another right and tree hugging liberals who need an alternative for loggers to harvest.  It's for activist who want to end or limit the use of industrial pollutants in their environment and corporate types who just want to spend less money on their companies healthcare bill.  It's for medical professionals who truly desire to ease and end the suffering of their patients and college kids who think that they'll never have to visit a doctor.  It's for clergy who wish to ease the suffering of their flock and atheists who just want to use what's real.

Or maybe your 'cure' has nothing to do at all with hemp. Possibly your cure is to nationalize the Federal Reserve Bank.  Or protest against your current representatives.  There are plenty of 'cures' today that are currently illegal.  Like shooting your spouse.

Whatever your motivation, use this to help further your cause.  I don't mean to dilute the meaning of Legalize the Cure in any way.  Our meaning is clear.  Legalize cannabis.  There is absolutely no reason that this manna of the Earth should be kept from humanity.  Why spend millions to preserve the snail darter while spending billions to eradicate a source of curing so much of what is wrong with this society.

The "War on Drugs" has, in the opinion of many, been an abject failure.  Prohibition in all forms has been proven unworkable.  From the Magna Carta saying the King did not have unlimited rights, to the Catholic Church having to recognize that Galileo was right, to the passage of the Twenty-First Amendment that ended Prohibition, to the fall of the Soviet Union that attempted to ban private ownership, prohibitions don't work.  From Nazi Germany's attempt to ban books to the current U.S. efforts to ban poppy production in Afghanistan, all these efforts are bound to fail.  Prohibition causes more problems for the Government than it solves by reducing the legitimacy of the Government.

And make no mistake, this marijuana prohibition has nothing to do with protecting people or others from the effects of smoking or ingesting marijuana.  It has, in this author's opinion, everything to do with stifling free market competition for the entrenched corporate interests.

Rational people will think that this is unsustainable.  Let others know that you're rational.
