This campaign is designed to appeal to many different people. I'll discuss
some of these groups as well as others who may not want to support such reform.
First of all, I want to appeal to those of you who suffer from
cancer or have a loved one going through treatment for this horrible disease. This includes:
- Current sufferers
- Family members of sufferers
- Those who think that Prohibition is a bad idea
- People who think that prison is a bad idea for those wishing to cure
themselves
- Physicians and other caregivers who care about their patients
- People who desire to live without Government harassment
- Those who think that fighting an unwinnable "War Against Drugs" with money we
don't have is a faulty policy
- People who believe that creating a black market and the subsequent inevitable
crime it creates might not be the best social policy
- Voters who believe that stifling competition to Big Business by criminalizing
alternatives to their markets is not a demonstration of capitalism
I hope that this is but a partial list of those who would support
Legalize the Cure. This is not about those who wish to use cannabis
recreationally. Their support is certainly welcome, and indeed encouraged. After all, if you care to
believe the DEA and their past and current Directors, the recreational use of marijuana is the only reason that it
is currently illegal.
Now, those that I would expect would disagree wholeheartedly with a campaign to
legalize marijuana:
- Big Pharma employees and Directors
- Big Oil employees and Directors
- Pesticide manufacturers
- Law enforcement employees and prison employees
- Liquor and beer manufacturers
- The DEA and US Customs employees
- Defense contractors supplying the above agencies
- Drug testing manufacturers
- Substance abuse rehabilitation employees
- Hospital administrators and Cancer clinic employees
- Those profiting from current seizure laws
These are industries that have much to gain from continuing
the Prohibition against either a competing product or a huge source of revenue.
Now I don't expect that cannabis can cure everything in everyone. I'm not
saying that it will.
It's a darn good thing that Dr. Jonas Salk's polio vaccine didn't make people feel good. If it did, it might be
illegal and the iron lung industry would be the nation's largest health care concern.
Is using the issue of cannabis as a scientifically verifiable potential cure for
cancer and a host of other life threatening ailments a wedge issue just to get marijuana legalized? You bet
your sweet bippy it is! It is every bit a wedge issue as saying "Reefer makes darkies think they're as good
as white men" was to Harry Anslinger in 1937 while getting cannabis banned to eliminate competition for
DuPont, Hearst, et al.
Except this wedge issue makes a lot more sense from a moral, medical and financial
point of view than Harry's wedge issue ever did.
So, if you are a person who believes that we should be doing all we can to eliminate
suffering on a global scale by sharing humanitarian information about a plant that grows easily in most types of soil and in
most climates, join us.
If you are a person who believes that the solution to global warming lies in the
combination of increasing the use of an easily renewed resource and increasing both the size of the forests by
decreasing logging and increasing the population of a plant that loves to eat carbon dioxide while renewing the soil,
join us.
If you are a person who values innovation and the prospect of new industries that no
one has thought of yet, through the use of an old, but new to us material that has literally thousands of known
uses and countless unknown uses, join us.
If you are a person who thinks that the role of the U.S. Government should be to
ensure that the conditions exist where entrepreneurs can start businesses that meet current and future needs,
provide jobs and add the value to society that a free people can produce rather than protect and shield entrenched failed
and failing corporations from new and innovative competition, join us.
If you are a person who believes creating a false fear to use in controlling the
masses is just plain wrong and that the only way to fight this mass manipulation is to call it out, join
us.
If you believe that honesty and integrity and truthfulness are traits that
government will express only when they are demanded by the governed that they be expressed, join us.
If you're happy with the status quo and like that artificial costs
for healthcare, energy and a government program to fight a black market that it created eats up a significant
portion of your tax money, jails your neighbors and creates crime in your neighborhood and around the world, fight
us.
If you want to increase the lead the U.S. has of having the highest percentage
of its population in jail of any country, fight us.
We'll win. We have to. Now, the planet is at stake. And you'll be
happy we won.
Because, believe me, a year after cannabis is legal, you'll wonder what all the fuss
was about in the first place.
